sizzle and thrill from your mixdown shows, motivated me and landed me in the
music business.
Of course l can go on and on but at this point in time
l would like to ask for
a favour if you do not mind, l concetrate more in old skool vibes and l find
that the American blend is different from the European, so if you may if you
do
not mind send me lists of songs in old skool R & B, hip hop and some mellow
vibes including reggae, dancehall and dance. l would greatly appreciate that
and willing to pay a price for wasting your time compiling the lists for me.

Mr Jones
Let me start by saying like millions of Zimbabweans I grew up listening to your voice on the radio, waiting with baited breath every evening for the “Bill Board Charts” and international music industry news. Like millions of others I was saddened when you left radio.
Mr Jones when I heard that you regularly posted podcasts on the internet I was elated not only because you were dare I say back, but also because I hope to persuade you to partake in a small radio project my employers and I are launching in South Africa. Black Rage Productions would like in the near future to launch a private commercial internet radio station. We hope to draw in world class African Radio Legends such as yourself to either host shows in our studios or do so through syndicated prerecorded shows. I am hopeful that you will find this interesting, I know millions of Zimbabweans will be thrilled to hear your voice and would relish a chance to communicate with you via your show.
For more information on Black Rage Productions and on Rage Radio, perhaps clarity on our intended direction and your role in this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

we experience from Gweru. Anyway everyone is positive about things turning

Hie PeterI recently listened to your podcast after recommendation from a friend,& its obviously very good.Truth is,wouldn't have expected anything less by your high standards.I've also realised you have occassions where you play the latest music besides old school..ON the same token,i get a lot of new musicwhich is sometimes very rare and usually not yet released, but from known international R&B or Hip Hop artists. At times i jus get good tunes which r never played or remixes that r good but would never get air time, cos the djs don't have them. For example,i heard Ryan Leslie playing a rare mix of his new song on Choice FM last month when he visited. He pointed out that this was the 1st time this version was being played anywhere in the world as he had just cut it in Germany. When i heard it i realised i had it on 1 of my complilations from 2months earlier,if u catch my drift. Also items like new R-Kelly mixes from his new songs e.t.c. As i receive this music on a monthly basis from my contacts,i really can't enjoy this good music without sharing with people who appreciate good music.& i thought it would be awesome to get it to someone who can get it to the people. So that's when u came to mind. If interested,Peter i could simply send u the music thru e-mail regularly for u to sample,& if u like any that would be cool,& if there r any u don't like u r free to delete obviously.Look forward to hear from u.Regards

From: John Silweya (silweyajo@cec.com.zm)
To: peterjohns5@hotmail.com
Hey P J!!
You won’t believe this – but I used to Listen to 3 FM those days (1986 to 1997) from Lusaka, ZAMBIA!! I knew a lot about your shows and top DJ’s on 3 such as Cool Kudzi Marudza, The Hitman, Tich Mataaz, Ian Tigola (was on Metro FM early 90’s and is now late I’m told), George Munetsi, Simon Parkinson, Admire, Otis “The Flow” Fraser etc etc. Hey, nice to get in touch PJ and relive the old times.
You are very good at what you do – and if I was a DJ one day – I’d like to be just like you!!
I am really into old school music and I do have a very very impressive collection!! Here in Zambia, things are now very good and there’s lots of music and private Radio Stations, and they are doing very well indeed!!
Wishing you many many more happy years of DeeJaying SIR PETER JOHNS!!

Subject: HELLO
Hey PJ
I’m so excited to have finally found your email address on the NewZimbabwe.com website. I’ve been a fan of yours for decades. I’m a Malawian by birth but grew up in Zimbabwe in the early 80’s as well as 90’s. Came back to Malawi in 1995 to be precise after having lived in Zim for 14 years. I remember listening to Monday Mellow Madness when I was in high school in Bulawayo and comparing notes with my girlfriends during lunchbreak as regards your presentation. I used to look forward to the end of year especially because I knew you would host the “Top 100 Hits” show. And because of your great exploits on the radio, I love music so much that I’ve a good collection of the old school in my computer i.e. Lionel Richie, New Edition, Michael Jackson, Gerald Levert, The Debarge Family, Kool and the Gang, Madonna, UB40, Michael Bolton, Atlantic Starr etc, my gosh the list will go on and on. I give you a thumbs up PJ because you made my childhood so memorable. I can honestly say that today’s music is not everlasting as the music of the 80’s and 90’s. And of course, I’ve never come across a DJ that could compare to you. You will always be my favourite DJ.
Of course, right now I’m in my 30’s with one child and working for the Malawi Gaming Board, but I still enjoy my music because you played such a pivotal role in that. You made listening to the radio a wonderful pastime. I never used to miss your shows.

Edith Dule

Hello Peter, The Radio Driver
My name is Wilfred Moyo. I am a Zimbabwean based in Botswana
since mid 2004.I come from the small town of Zvishavane in the Midlands near
Gweru where I went to school at Nashville back in the 80s.I will be taking a
new job with Debswana here in Bots early January 2008 on a three year deal as
an Electrical Technician. Peter ,I remember you taking your first slot on that
debut Sunday show on the then Radio 3 and your introducer was non other than
the charismatic John Matinde.I am sure that you agre ewith me that all the good
music was played in the 1980s.Anywhere for now my invitation is for you to explore
Botswana as a potentially viable market place for your trade. This place has
a vibrant young generation of which is starved of real entertainment to include
both radio and clubbing.Of late I have noticed new radio stations being launched
and airwave licences being issued and I think its the ideal time for you guys
to setup in this part of the world. I will send you a personal invitation to
visit me as soon as I settle down on the new job. I made colleagues in the likes
of the Pr Manager for Botswana Television,a switched-on guy called Kenosi Radiporo.
He also doubles as the stations Marketing Manager. At least you guys will have
a starting point. The other memo I have of you is obviously your amazing ability
of research on Musicians and their staff. Keep up the good works. After all
the material things put together, this world needs entertainers of your calibre.
Please send best regards to brother John.I am a happy man. Please enjoy your
X.mas. By the way you may call me a young old man or an old young man. I am
42 years now.Chal. To sign off, let me spin a blast from the past, a ray from
the grave."you can stay if you wanna, I am going home.chal for now"Those
were Pjs hay days on Radio 3.sadly there is no live radio in Zims anymore.

One thing is for sure you and people like the late Elvis "the Demon" Chimene, John Matinde,Fungayi Marange, Kudzie Marudza and Tonderai Ndoro helped the musical taste the obtains in me today. You are such a wonderful blessing to young people like and I wish you all the very best. Our nation has lost immensely because of the absence of your talent.
Thank you for the eternally wonderful

To: peterjohns5@hotmail.com
Hey PJ! My names Graham Mackay, I'm an ex-Zim boy and I used to listen to your
UK Top 40 show on Radio 3 every week without fail (the highlight being when
you gave me a shout-out on my 12th birthday after meeting my parents at the
Marine Ball at Meikels in 1998! Doubt you remember that but I still have it
recorded on cassette to this very day!) I was just checking out a few clips
on youtube, typing in a bunch of stuff that reminded me of Zimbabwe, when I
decided to serch for "Peter Johns Zimbabwe" and enjoyed a few flashbacks
of Coca-Cola on the Beach from like '97 - classic! I also checked out your website
and I now see you're over in the UK, what are you up to these days? Still presenting
and DJing? I was pretty gutted to hear you'd left Radio 3, but hey, we all had
to move on... I left Zim and moved over to Scotland in 2001. I'm hoping to attend
the National Broadcasting School after uni as presenting / broadcasting has
always been my passion (I actually remember telling my mum that I wanted to
present the UK Top 40 on Radio 3 one day!) I was wondering if you had any advice
that you may be able to offer me in terms of how I can gain experience in the
industry in the UK as I really want to gain as much as possible in order to
maximise my chances of getting into the NBS and fulfilling my life-long dream.
Any words of wisdom you may have would be greatly appreciated! It would be really
cool to hear back from you, all the best

HEY MAN!!!
I was so happy to bump onto yo site on Internet this morning! it's great man!
i remember the days of the Radio Driver, Monday Mellow Madness...was mature
enough to enjoy yo shows on ZBC Radio 3 before the storm took away all that.
I remember Push Upstairs, SugarHill Gang, ATB-Don't Stop, Guns and Roses and many more....we are no longer in touch man with that kinda of music, imagine.
But guess what? In Zimbabwe right now Old Skool is in total control....we go to listen to some DJs like Tich Mataz, Kudzie Marudza, Witness "Chuman" Matema, Daniel Mackenzie and many more at such places like Pamuzinda Highway, Nyama Choma, Adelaide Acres, Mutangadura and many more where they rekindle old memories through songs like Pump Up The Jam, Cher's Believe, Bob Marleys, Peter Tosh, Cindy louper's Time After Time, Mike and the Mechanics, Take That, Enigma, Mirage, Black Box, Lucky Dube and much more.
I suggest that you come for a home coming show...i tell you it could be a jam!
However i am having problems viewing yo site...will download Flash very soon and i hope everything will be ok. i am a journalist employed by Kwayedza...remember the Shona paper...?? but a journo is a journo...we are enjoying buddy here only the expensive beer...but pliz consider a home coming show....can't wait man! Keep in touch The Radio Driver.

and everyone we come accross looking for a professional DJ to help host their
gatherings. You will be hearing from me from time to time when I get married
you have to be there I hope you keep the clip you showed me on your digicam
that was just how much your music made everyone so happy thankyou once again
you are a true gentleman,a national ambassador for Zimbabwe a true national
treasure keep up the good work takecare and God bless.

Hi DJ Peter,
I couldnot believe my eyes when i saw your website. I am so excited.i was one of your fans backin Zim.Actually i was talking about you and your jingles paRadio 3, about two days ago. Good to see that he Radio Driver is OKAY. Wow i am stil in shock(from excitement). Man i remember Circus nightclub. It was not the same if you not there playing. When i listened to Right Now by SWV it reminded me of when the ladies in Circus would go ontothe dance floor and allthe guys would stand and us dancing.
Good to see you and keep adding more old schoo' onto your website, cause i am old school NOW.
Tonderayi KKKKK

Man i just came across your website and
man you still got it the flow and you
keep up with your music.Used to always come to the Circus when you played as
well as the Visions in BYO. Do you ever get the opportunity to come to the
states and play for some of your fans here. I do club but its different here
the clubs play the same music you hear on the radio too commercial its not like
back home when something new was only heard at the clubs .Really miss those
days. Are you playing on any radio station, maybe i could listen on the net.Peace

hi Peter i am a big fun of old skool music.Infact i occasionally play old skool music in Birmingham bars UK. If you are doing an old skool jam link me up and i can be your guest DJ or alternatively we can organise something. I collected an impressive 100 records, i have just bought HI tension happy, David Joseph discover and hide your love, Alex and cheryl saturday love. Link me anyway if you think we can do a gig for the old timers.

Hie Peter
My name is Martin D. and I am one of your all time fan. Damn I miss hearing your voice on radio. It is sad that many people are just now scattered all over the world and we seem to not really care about the good old days as it seems its now each man for himself regardless of what. Your music brought memories all the time and I used to enjoy sitting next to the radio everyday whenever you were hosting.
I remember when you used to visit Barons Fashion when I was working there as a manager, as you were presenting a show for them on radio (Barons, Modique, Topman and Avante)wow it was something.
Anyway please promise me that if things goes well home, one day you will decide to go back on radio even if it is for thirty minutes only. My boet you are blessed and I salute you.
If it is possible, pliz can you compile a CD for me for your old favourite old school songs from the 1990s. I am willing to pay for that copy . let me know if it is possible pliz.
Keep well and don’t forget home. May god bless you always
Thanks once again
Martin D.

Hi PJ
I do hope you had a wonderfull time during the festive period. I know and understand
that you are a very busy man, but as an aspiring young DJ, I had to turn to
you again for some advice. I am into Old skool Music especialy. House and Dance,
RNB you name it.
I have been copmiling some of my favourite songs and artists thats rocked the
radio during the late 80s through the 90s when i was growing up and when you
"drove" the radio as well!
I now have the likes of :D-Mob
Colonel Adams
Gwen Guthrie
Monie Love
A guy called Gerald etc
I however cannot remember the names of the artists who had these songs as hits
in the late 80s and early 90s :
1. Trance Dance...it used to start by the words..." I wanna make you dance..."
2.The other song had these words or was it the name..."Roses are red...violets
are blue.." with some kind of BVSMP beat and style.
3.The last one had the words "Lovey Dovey feeling"..with almost the
same beat and style like above
I would greatly appreciate if you remember from your collection and experience
of music, give me the names of these artists so that i can search them, or if
you know a site where i can get old skool music.
hope to hear from you some time
kind regards

Dear Peter Johns,
It was really nice coming across your website. So I just thought of dropping
you one. You were my favourite DJ since 1991 until I left Zimbabwe in 2001.
I remember the rave, and the hip-hop tunes you used to play on radio.
I hope one day we will be able to hear you again on radio back in Zimbabwe.
Take care and God bless.
Regards,
Takudzwa Mukubvubvu

Whatsup my DJ. Just a quick mesaage to say hey wassup, how ya doin? It's been a while. I was just wondering, over the last few days, what had happened to you after leaving Pockets Hills.
I remember the days of my youth when we wouldn't consider a club as worthy of our patronage if you were not the DJ on that night. I then moved to Bulawayo for my degree and you would play there atleast every month end. In the 4 years I spent at college I don't recall missing a single one of those gigs. The trade fair weekend was a special as well. It was the guarantee of good music, the latest beats from overseas and the atmosphere that only you could generate.
Anyway, I still am a big fan and like I told you at one of those sessions, You should run for president.
It's good to see you're still in the music business despite what happened back home. If you should launch one of those internet radio sites or go into one of the established stations that are abundant in the UK let me know. You're guaranteed of atleast one listener.
One love, respect.
Ashley

Dear Peter
Its quite pleasing to look back in time and think of all the pleasure you churned
through the radio waves. The house and rave tunes on saturday were wicked. My
mum used to shout at me for "pumping up the volume" and your jingle
'If its too loud - you are too old' enraged her more. When I was able to go
clubbing - it was all fun. Keep up the good work man.
Regards,
David
PS: can you kindly provide me with the email address and/or phone number for
Dennis Wilson.

Hi Peter
I just came across your website when i was jess browsing Newzimbabwe.com, first
thing when I saw your face it was just tears. What happened to the good old
days? We had one of the best Radio Station in the world, to be honest. We used
to go to Scamps, Circus etc. Whatever happened to DJ Jim and Boogie, Zed and
Ellington, The voice( Fungai Marange),Fly girl (Norah Chipaumire, Isaah, Tich,
The King, Kudzi, Busi Chindove, Barbara Maseko, Ian Sigola, The Demon, Dj Darlington,
Hilton Mambo, Tsitsi.
Peter you were in a class of your own, and sorry to say this but, Since I have
been here in the UK I have tried to get hold of Deluxe 3 albums, Total Contrast
the song, what you gonna do aboout it. I think getting in touch with you will
help solve my problems. I do not mind paying what ever amount. I would also
liuke to come to your live shows that is if you still do. So Peter you couldn`t
get a slot on Radio one and Play them some of your jingles. They aint seen nothing
yet but if you manage to get a slot im sure they will keep you and then we can
listen to proper radio. The death of Josh Makawa hit me hard mate, I just cant
believe. But do you think Zimbabwe ill get back to the way it was. I DONT THINK
SO,
Take care i will keep in touch
Ozzy
Peejay,
I was one of your biggest fans back home and its good to finally bump into you.....any
chance you could throw some random names i need to get to boost my eighties
music collections...... i got a few the whispers, cool and the gang etc
regards
Iggy
Mr Jones why have you not started an online station of
your own for people like ourselves who remember the
good' ol times that you presented for us and would
love to hear your voice in doing what you do best?
That way all of us out here in the States too can
enjoy your work!

I must say it was a pleasure running into
your website when i was surfing the net searching
for some afro music. I'm glad you are well and still crazy about music, its
so addictive. i bet you are moaning the loss of quality productions like we
used to have in the 70s, 80s and 90s. My name is Ronnie muhawa and I am writing
you from chicago, usa. My main question is do you have any old skool recorded
on cds or mp3s for sale from the 80s and 90s. I would really love to own a couple
of copies.

yo dj... peejay...
that was the way u used to sign off after blessing the airwaves on the then
radio 3.....
i swear i bn a fan eversince i knew i wanted to be just like u...
i'm in zim and yes u even played at our dinner dance at plumtree high school....that
was a party...well, i kinda lost my date coz i was contagious to the dance floor....but
hey music is my first love so ...that was easy....
good to know u still playing back here in zim the airwaves are free but creativity
and real love for music is lacking these djs are just presenters...its a pity
u culdnt be given enuff tym to pass down to this new generation...
anyway i'm an emcee and i do hip-hop music with our own label which we manage
called INSANE PRODUCTIONS...the album we have sold the hood is called BORN 2
REIGN.
we are from bulawayo and the featured artist owner of the album is LYRICAL INSANE
who happens to be a producer/emcee. the album features a lot of different variations
of hip-hop and therefore appeals for a wider fanbase....
i was hoping to send u some tracks so u can tell us wat you think....as yo input
will be very vital in letting us know were we stand......
thanking you in advance and wishing you all the best this year

Do you still remember “Come on get it on tonighttttttttttttttttt” at Circus Strathaven Harare. We miss the old days. Am still resident in Zimbabwe and radio has changed quite a lot from what it used to be……you may have heard. I guess it the turning of days. But nothing beats the good old days. I bet you are still rocking the airwaves wherever you are now…..I appreciated the effort you used to put in creating your jingles in those old days. Anyway just stumbled onto your website and decide to drop you mail.
Keep well

04 Oct 2006 To PJ our DJ,
I must say peter i am leaving the same life you leaved as you came up a big
DJ in zim. I have pple say all kinds of things abt me or to me and putting me
down. I am just doing my thing but what i wanted to know from you was how u
over come such pple who put u down or as u call them "BACKSTABERS"
I work for an online radio station and also dj in clubs and party here in the
diaspora. I was the one who wrote to you via email and requested an interview
that you turned down, due to good reasons u gave me. I just wanted to ask u
LIVE the same thing i am asking you now, it was and still is all about DJing
nothing else. Most of the djs on the station looked/look up to you and try to
present shows just like u did and also make those cool jingles u used to make
or play on radio.
Anyway, i hope u remember the email and hopfully u will holla back for a chat
about the DJ game.
Thank you..............

people who Earned the Names and trying to get cash through Big names , its Sad
, very Sad , i am Glad that you have the site up, where people know of Your

were underground and felt they could take advantage of they fame, its sad .Who
updated us with the latest Cuts on Radio , Brightened the Radio with Sound effects

Going home early to catch the Twighlight Zone , including the Rain of Music

Hi Peter!!
All i can say is well done and I SIR-LOOT you BIG TIME...It was high time. Your
profile just touched my heart, you said it all, you did it proper i must say
and that's the Truth.
Disc jocking is a talent you are born with, you either have it or you don't.
My Late great gran mum told me when i was lucky to see her, a child is born
with they hands closed and in those little hands is a talent or skill and one
day in life it will all be revealed and that's yours, You have it in your hands.
I myself look up to you, you gave me a chance like how you were given a chance.
I LOVE music like "hell" from young.I can remember in the 70s my mother
used to like writing words from singers like the Late great Barry White and
i was the one to bring the record back if she missed the words of the song and
i loved that.
I would of liked to go further with Dj-ing but becoming a dad at a young age
just took me of track, but there you go, that's life.
Again Pee Jay i would like to say well done My Teacher!!!!!!!!!
Terry Jay 4ever........................
